Jennifer Aniston's colorist says making this mistake between salon visits is ruining your hair

  • Showering in really hot water could be damaging your hair color in between visits to the salon.
  • Jennifer Aniston's long-time colorist Michael Canalé told INSIDER that this is something not many people know.
  • It's not just hot water either — heat from the sun can cause color to fade too.
  • Canalé shared his tips for best maintaining hair color.

Coloring your hair is an investment many of us make a few times a year — but it's not cheap.

Whether highlights or the whole head, balayage or just a touch-up of the roots, a visit to the salon can set you back at least $100 each time.

While this is worth it for many of us — there's nothing like the confidence a new 'do can give you, after all — when you're dropping a hefty amount of your hard-earned dollar on your hair, you want that color to last.

But it turns out there's a very simple mistake many of us are making in between visits to the hairdresser that is damaging our color: taking hot showers.

"Using too-hot water can actually fade your color," Michael Canalé, Jennifer Aniston's long-time colorist, told INSIDER.

Canalé has been coloring Aniston's hair for 24 years now (he's the co-creator of the iconic "Rachel" 'do) and has also worked with Heidi Klum, Kate Hudson, Shakira, and Penelope Cruz, so it's safe to say he knows a thing or two about hair color.

It's not just hot showers you need to avoid though, but heat in general.

"Stay out of the sun as much as possible because that bleaches up your hair," advised Canalé.

"Try using a gloss with a UV sunblock in, especially during the summer months when the heat really lifts the color and alters it. It's just like hot water — heat from the sun is just as damaging."

So, what can you do to maintain your color between visits to the salon?

1. Stay out of the sun

Avoiding the sun altogether is unrealistic for most people, but because the UV will change your color, maybe think twice about lying out for hours.

2. Wash with cooler water

If you want to help prevent your color fading, skip the scalding hot shower for a milder one, which will be a lot gentler on your hair.

3. Use a color-safe shampoo

"You need to use a mild shampoo that stimulates the hair from the inside," Canalé said. "Basically a good, color-safe shampoo is important. From there, regular conditioning."

4. Apply a deep-conditioning treatment at least once a month

This is particularly important if you have curly hair, because curls tend to be altered when the hair is colored.  "When you condition the hair it puts it back to its natural curl pattern," Canalé explained.

When hair is dry, it becomes stiff and won't curl properly. A good conditioner adds moisture, softens, and soothes the hair, allowing the natural curl pattern to return.

With summer approaching, if you're off to the beach Canalé actually advises not fully washing your conditioner out when you wash your hair — lightly rinsing and leaving a bit of the conditioner in will protect the hair and thus the color from the sun.

  • Jennifer Aniston's hair color has been done by the same man for 24 years.
  • Michael Canalé is responsible for her much sought-after honeyed locks, and is also co-creator of "The Rachel," the iconic hair-do of Jennifer Aniston's character in "Friends."
  • INSIDER spoke to Canalé to find out all about how he colors Aniston's hair.
  • Visit INSIDER's homepage for more stories.

When it comes to iconic female hairstyles, there may be a handful which spring to mind: Amy Winehouse's beehive perhaps, or maybe Audrey Hepburn's pixie crop.

One which would definitely make the cut is "The Rachel"— Jennifer Aniston's famous 'do in the early seasons of beloved TV sitcom "Friends."

Although Rachel's hair evolved over the 10 years "Friends" was filmed, it remained highly lust-worthy in the eyes of many. Now 15 years on since the final episode ended, Jennifer Aniston's hair is still incredibly sought-after.

There is one main person responsible for her honeyed locks: Michael Canalé.

Canalé has been Aniston's colorist for 24 years, and he's also co-creator of "The Rachel."

INSIDER spoke to Canalé to find out exactly what goes into coloring Aniston's hair.

Aniston gets her hair colored every five weeks

While getting your hair colored might be an annual treat for some, being in the spotlight (and having such famous locks) means Aniston visits Canalé for a touch-up every five weeks.

"We refresh the color every five weeks, if anything needs correcting we do that," he told INSIDER.

Canalé is referring to when Aniston has to deviate from her usual color for a movie role, such as in "Dumplin," where her hair was blonder than normal.

"Sometimes she has to do a movie so we do a blonder look," he said.

"For some of these movies they go a little bit too blonde and then we have to repair the hair and get it back into shape. It usually only takes one or two times to pull it back together."

Aniston's color is designed to bring out her eyes

Canalé blends Aniston's highlights to look as natural as possible.

"It's seamless, effortless color," he said. "It's always that way and we always pop that front hairline up so it goes better with her skintone and her eyes.

"We do a golden look from behind the hairline and the hairline is actually done in a sandy tone to bring out her eye color and to soften her Greek skintone."

People still ask for "The Rachel"

Although hair trends come and go, Canalé believes "The Rachel" is timeless.

"People still love that Jennifer Aniston blend-out," he said.

In fact, Canalé, who has also colored the hair of Heidi Klum, Kate Hudson, Shakira, and Penelope Cruz, explained that Aniston's color is growing in popularity again as people opt for more natural looks.

Read more: There's a good reason why you shouldn't go out in the cold with wet hair, and it has nothing to do with getting sick

"Ombre is over," he said. "We're still doing a darker back but we're doing seamless highlights that connect. It has the illusion of a darker back but it has a better blend-out. We still keep the front popped.

"It's like instead of having highlights that are three to five inches away from the root, we're having a blend of seamless highlights that connect, and we might do a color blend just to soften and pull the highlight color closer to the natural, like a blended highlight that goes into the base."

Highlighting hair in this way means the color looks natural as it grows out too, as if the hair was lightened by the sun.

"It looks just like 'The Rachel,'" he added.

Meghan Markle and Jennifer Aniston use the 'time under tension' method to build muscle while burning fat — here's what that means

meghan markle lagree workout

  • Sebastien Lagree is a celebrity trainer whose fans include Meghan Markle, Jennifer Aniston, Sofia Vergara, Karlie Kloss, Michelle Obama, and Calvin Harris.
  • His training method is all about focusing on "time under tension."
  • This means performing movements slowly — ie. taking 8-10 seconds to lift a weight and the same amount of time to lower it — to stimulate the slow-twitch muscle fibres.
  • Lagree says this is the way to sculpt a lean physique.
  • However according to other fitness experts, the method may not be right for everyone depending on your goals.
  • Visit INSIDER's homepage for more stories.

In today's fast-paced world, using our limited time effectively is of the utmost importance.

This has led to the rise of short, sharp, high intensity workouts, many of which promise to work your body as efficiently as possible in as little as 20 minutes by moving fast and limiting rest time.

But according to one personal trainer, rushing through a workout isn't the way to go.

Celebrity trainer Sebastien Lagree has worked with a seemingly never-ending list of celebrities — fans of his training method include Khloe and Kim Kardashian, Meghan Markle, Jennifer Aniston, Ivanka Trump, Ashley Graham, Rihanna, Alessandra Ambrosio, Karlie Kloss, Courteney Cox, Nicole Kidman, Sofia Vergara, Vanessa Hudgens, Scott Eastwood, Britney Spears, Lea Michele, Eva Longoria, Elizabeth Hurley, Lady Gaga, Michelle Obama, and Calvin Harris.

And Lagree, an ex-body-builder turned fitness engineer and creator of the Lagree Fitness Method and Megaformer machine, is a staunch advocate of slowing down workouts and focusing on "time under tension" (TUT).

Read more: You're probably squatting wrong, according to Ellie Goulding's personal trainer

Essentially, this means performing each move incredibly slowly so as to increase the length of time the muscles are working.

Lagree believes this is the way to see results, not lifting heavier weights.

"The key to building muscle strength and endurance, while burning fat, lies in intensifying your workout by having more control and less momentum behind each lift," he said.

How to increase time under tension

The TUT approach can be applied to most movements you might perform in the gym, from a simple bicep curl to a bench press.

Lagree suggests taking 8 to 10 seconds to lift a weight, and another 8 to 10 to return to your starting point. And if you're holding a position, do so for a minute.

Read more: The $35 workout Meghan Markle called 'the best thing you can do for your body' was the hardest thing I've ever done in a gym. Here's how to do it at home.

"You need to perform or hold the movement/position you're in for a minimum of 60 seconds to achieve or improve muscular endurance," Lagree told INSIDER.

"Muscular endurance is the strengthening, tightening, toning, and sculpting of the muscles."

Sebastien teaching class2

He believes explosive movements are to be avoided and stresses that you shouldn't try to lift too heavy, because you won't be able to.

"By moving slowly for a long time (ie: anywhere from 60 – 120 seconds), you're preventing your body from cheating, so you're getting a much deeper muscle fatigue because your muscles are doing all the work," Lagree explained.

"Using momentum to power movements is what leads to potential injury of connective tissues because you're combining force with speed. If you lift with a lot of acceleration, you create momentum."

Why might TUT be better?

Lagree believes one of the main benefits of the TUT method is that it teaches you to lift with control.

"When you move slowly, it forces your body to create more nerve-endings around the muscle, which is good for your mind-body connection and concentration on the movements," he explained.

"You will get a better response from working out because you will activate more muscle fibers. When you're just using explosive movements, you're only activating mostly the fast-twitch muscle fibers, which are responsible for building bulk."

Read more: Lifting heavy or light weights will give you different results — here's how to know which ones to use

According to Lagree, explosive movements performed with momentum are more likely to result in injury too: "The connective tissues that attach your muscles to bones, that's at risk, because really you're creating artificial resistance with speed; this can lead to micro-tears in ligaments and tendons, and worse," he said.

It's safer to use lighter weights and focus on the length of time that the muscle is being contracted, he said.

However, not everyone is convinced by these claims — Rick Howard, M.Ed, C.S.C.S., for example, told Men's Health that TUT actually isn't less likely to result in injury than more explosive movements, so the jury is out.

Is TUT right for everyone?

If it's true that explosive movements result in muscle bulk, should you skip TUT if you're actively trying to build muscle?

Not necessarily.

While TUT might not be the main component of your workouts, Lagree says you should still weave it in alongside explosive movements to make sure you're building the foundation of the muscle's structure by strengthening those underlying slow twitch muscle fibers.

You can still employ progressive overload with the TUT method too.

luke worthington trx.JPG

Building muscle size (hypertrophy) is different from building strength though, and as such the two goals require different training methods, as human movement and elite performance specialist Luke Worthington, a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, Integrative Corrective Exercise Specialist, and Master of Science in Biomechanics, explained to INSIDER.

"Training to increase strength and power requires lifting the weight with intent and explosively," said Worthington, who believes that focusing on TUT alone may not be enough to reach your goals.

"Caveat this by saying that hypertrophy training also requires adequate force production to produce metabolic damage to the muscle fibres in order to stimulate growth.

"Doing multiple slow deliberate reps without adequate resistance will create muscle soreness, but not an increase in its size or strength."

Read more: Scarlett Johansson's personal trainers say burpees are a waste of time — here's what you should be doing instead

Worthington advises tailoring your training style to your goal:

  • To increase muscle size (hypertrophy), do 12-15 reps with a moderate to heavy weight.
  • To build muscle strength, do 4-6 reps with a heavy weight.
  • To improve muscle power, do 4-6 reps with a medium to low weight, but move fast.

"Performing 15 or more reps with low weights will only really create soreness," Worthington said. "Which can be helpful in a rehab program to help someone 'find' a muscle in the days following a workout, but not useful for changing its appearance or performance."

TUT certainly has benefits, but whether it's going to have a dramatic effect on your fitness — and physique — depends on your goals.

Courtney Cox has delighted "Friends" fans by posting a never-before-seen throwback photo of the cast on board a private jet to Las Vegas before the show aired for the first time.

In the throwback snap from 1994, Cox, Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry, and David Schwimmer are seen smiling and relaxing on their way to the City of Sin.

In true "Friends" style, Cox, who played Monica, captioned the post: "The one where the six of us went to Vegas and no one knew we were F.R.I.E.N.D.S yet."

Whether the plane had a phalange or not is unclear, but celebrities have loved the old snap.

"Look at that! Thanks again Jimmy Burrows. Love you Courteney," commented Lisa Kudrow, who played Phoebe.

"This is TOO good!" added fellow actor Reese Witherspoon.

"WOW," said model and actor Poppy Delevingne.

Former NBC president Warren Littlefield revealed in his 2018 book "Top of the Rock: Inside the Rise and Fall of Must See TV" that the then little-known actors went on the trip to allow them one last taste of a normal holiday before they would be catapulted into the spotlight.

Having had a guest role on "Seinfeld," Cox was actually the best-known of the six, but overall they were far from being household names before "Friends," which was originally called "Six of One."

"Based on the [live] audience for the 'Friends' pilot, I knew how popular that show would be,""Friends" director Jim Burrows said in the book, as detailed in Vanity Fair

"The kids were all pretty and funny, so beautiful. I said to Les Moonves, who was head of Warner Bros., 'Give me the plane. I'll pay for dinner.' I took the cast to Vegas."

Burrows told the cast this was going to be their last shot at anonymity.

Kudrow explained: "He said, 'I want you to be aware that this is the last time that you all can be out and not be swarmed, because that's what's going to happen.' And everyone was like, 'Really?' I thought, 'Well, we'll see. Maybe. Who knows? We don't know how the show's going to do. Why is he so certain?'"

It was on the plane that the cast actually saw the pilot episode of "Friends" for the first time.

What's more, they were given money for gambling in Vegas.

"Who goes to Vegas on a private jet? And Jimmy gave me 500 bucks to gamble," said Matt LeBlanc, who played Joey.

At the time, the soon-to-be mega-stars didn't have much money to play with.

"They wanted to gamble, and I was the only one with money," said Burrows. "They wrote me checks. Schwimmer gave me a check for $200, and Jen did. I should have saved them."

They all went to Caesars Palace for dinner and sat in a big, round table in the middle of the room.

"Your life is going to change," Burrows told the cast. "The six of you will never be able to do this again."

It would seem someone did tell them life was gonna be this way after all.

  • Lisa Kudrow has spoken out about how she didn't feel confident about her body next to her "Friends" costars.
  • The actor, who played Phoebe Buffay in the hit US sitcom, said she felt "like a mountain" compared to Courteney Cox and Jennifer Aniston, who played Monica Geller and Rachel Green.
  • Speaking to Marc Maron on the "WTF" podcast, Kudrow explained how these insecurities led to her to become "too thin," which in turn resulted in her getting ill.
  • Visit INSIDER's homepage for more stories.

Lisa Kudrow has opened up about the impact "Friends" had on her body image and what it was like comparing herself to her costars.

Speaking with Marc Maron on the "WTF" podcast, the actress said that she felt like a "mountain" next to costars Jennifer Aniston and Courteney Cox.

"You see yourself on TV, and it's that: 'Oh, my God, I'm just a mountain of a girl,'" Kudrow recalled. "I'm already bigger than Courteney and Jennifer — bigger, like my bones feel bigger.

"I just felt like this mountain of a woman next to them."

According to the 55-year-old, who played the character Phoebe Buffay on the hit TV show for 10 seasons, her body insecurities also lead to her becoming "too thin"— which meant she was constantly sick.

"Unfortunately for a woman, if you're underweight, you look good," Kudrow told Maron. "And that's all I ever got.

"And when I was too thin, I was sick all the time. Cold, sinus infection, some kind of flu. I was always sick."

Now, however, the actress reminds herself that it is OK to gain weight or have visible rolls — but admits she still has a "whole battle" internally.

"Then I just go 'All right. So what? You're older. That's a good thing. Why is that a bad thing?'" she said.

Despite her journey towards self-acceptance, Kudrow recently told "Entertainment Tonight" that she doesn't watch "Friends" reruns because she "might not like myself."

Despite the fact that TV reboots are everywhere these days, a "Friends" revival seemed off the table — until now. During an appearance on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," Jennifer Aniston revealed that she and the rest of the "Friends" cast actually are interested in a reunion.

When DeGeneres asked Aniston if it was a possibility during their sit down, which airs on Wednesday's episode, the "Dumplin'" star revealed that she thinks the original cast would be down to do it.

"Why not?" Aniston said. "You know what, because, listen, I told you this. I would do it. The girls would do it, and the boys would do it. I'm sure."

DeGeneres mentioned that even if the rest of the cast wasn't interested, Aniston could do it by herself, and she agreed.

"Who needs the others? They take me down," Aniston joked, as DeGeneres volunteered to play her next door neighbor.

Friends cast

She also brought up the fact that "Friends" will celebrate the 25th anniversary of the show's premiere in September, so the timing couldn't be better.

This isn't the first time Aniston has expressed her interest in being part of a potential reboot. Back in August 2018, she told InStyle that she hopes "Friends" will return in the future.

"I fantasize about it," Aniston said at the time. "It really was the greatest job I ever had. I don't know what it would look like today, but you never know. So many shows are being successfully rebooted."

"Friends" aired its final episode in May 2004 after 10 seasons. Fans currently continue to watch the show on Netflix.

20 iconic photos of the '90s from Y2K hysteria to Princess Diana's 'revenge dress'

  • The '90s might not seem like they were that long ago, but kids who were born in 1990 are turning 29 this year — a scary thought.
  • These photos will take you back to the decade of platform shoes, "Titanic," and beepers.
  • The cast of "SNL" was filled with superstars like Chris Farley, Adam Sandler, and Chris Rock.
  • Visit INSIDER's homepage for more stories.

Nostalgia for the '90s is at an all-time high right now, between fashion, TV show reunions, and a longing for simpler technology like Tamagotchis.

These 20 photos perfectly summarize the decade — the good, the bad, and the ugly. While you might remember the '90s through a pair of rose-tinted circular sunglasses, things weren't always better.

Crimes like the murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman captivated the country, and people were convinced that the world was going to end the minute the clock struck midnight on January 1, 2000.

Keep scrolling to take a journey back to the '90s, and see if you can remember these moments in time.

Jennifer Aniston spawned one of the most iconic hairstyles of all time, "the Rachel," during seasons one and two of "Friends."

Aniston's character, Rachel Green, quickly became the show's breakout star after just a few episodes. And her haircut, a modified shag featuring choppy layers that framed her face, was a phenomenon. Aniston's hairstylist Chris McMillan credits the cut with changing his life.

The country was captivated by President Bill Clinton's sex scandal. One of the most famous moments came when he denied having a relationship with Monica Lewinsky.

Independent counsel Kenneth Starr had been investigating President Clinton and first lady Hillary Clinton's involvement in a business venture when he found out about the then-alleged affair and began investigating it himself.

Clinton initially denied the allegations but later admitted to the relationship. The House of Representatives voted to impeach the president on charges of obstruction of justice and perjury, but he was acquitted in the Senate.

Anyone who has a Bill Clinton impression worth their salt can bust out "I did not have sexual relations with that woman, Miss Lewinsky,"combined with the famous finger jab.

In 1999, one of the biggest fears was Y2K, which was the belief that all computers would cease to function once we hit the year 2000.

Y2K was a huge concern for the world in 1999. The problem? That computers and other hardware would be unable to compute the year 2000, since they were programmed to recognize years by their last two digits, like '86 or '98. The thought was that '00 would be confusing to the computers, they'd compute that it was actually the year 1900, and everything would devolve into apocalyptic chaos.

Thankfully, none of that happened.

The Spice Girls rocked their now iconic ensembles, including Geri "Ginger Spice" Halliwell's Union Jack dress at the 1997 Brit Awards.

The Spice Girls were at the top of their game in February 1997. Their debut album "Spice" had come out a few months earlier, and would soon become the best-selling album in history by a girl group.

Their Brit Awards outfits, specifically Ginger Spice's Union Jack dress and Scary Spice's leopard-print ensemble, would go on to inspire Halloween costumes for years to come.

Beepers, or pagers, were the best way to get in touch with someone.

Before cellphones, beepers were the preferred method of communication in the '90s and 2000s. We hope the Beeper King was able to pivot once this technology was completely obsolete.

The trial of OJ Simpson dominated 1995, and one of the most infamous moments was when the former football player tried on a pair of gloves, spawning the phrase "if it doesn't fit, you must acquit."

OJ Simpson was accused of murdering his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman. The trial, which has been called the "trial of the century," was followed by millions of people across America for the better part of 1995.

Everything was a media circus, from the low-speed car chase to the bloody gloves found at the scene of the crime. Simpson was ultimately acquitted of the crime.

Platform shoes, which are making a comeback, were also huge in the '90s.

Urban Outfitters and Steve Madden even teamed up and began selling their iconic '90s platform sandals again in 2019.

Two of the biggest stars on the planet were Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio who made everyone cry their eyes out in "Titanic."

"Titanic" is still one of the top-grossing films of all time, and its importance to '90s kids cannot be overstated. And over 20 years later, people are still debating whether or not there was enough room on that door for Jack to hop on board.

The Tamagotchi craze swept across the world during the '90s.

The Tamagotchi was first brought into our homes in 1996. In case you've forgotten, Tamagotchis were handheld, digital pets that you needed to feed, clean, and play with in order to keep them happy.

These were so popular that they're coming back to a store near you in July 2019.

The love triangle between Princess Diana, Prince Charles, and Camilla Parker-Bowles culminated in Princess Di wearing what many called her "revenge dress."

Many thought the timing of this iconic look was no coincidence. The same night that Diana headed to the Serpentine Gallery party in London, her estranged husband Prince Charles admitted to the world that he had been unfaithful to his wife.

Low-rise jeans, Tommy Hilfiger-branded underwear, Destiny's Child, and a young Scarlett Johansson? There's never been a more '90s combo.

Low-rise jeans are just one of many trends from the '90s that should never make a comeback. They're almost universally unflattering, but they were inexplicably the bottoms of choice during the decade.

In 1999, Johansson had already hit her big break with the film "The Horse Whisperer." She was just 14 years old and the perfect age to be a Destiny's Child fan. In '99, the group was releasing smash hits like "Bills, Bills, Bills" and "Say My Name."

Franchise juggernaut "Star Wars" returned in 1999 after a 16-year hiatus with "Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace."

Anticipation for a new "Star Wars" film was at an all-time high by the time "Phantom Menace" was released in 1999, two years after it had begun filming in 1997.

While reactions were tepid, the movie brought the franchise into the new millennium and spawned two more sequels, an entirely new trilogy, two spin-off movies, and multiple animated series over a decade later. Plus, it made stars out of Natalie Portman, Ewan McGregor, and later Hayden Christensen.

Blockbuster Video was the one-stop shop for all your favorite movies, movie snacks, and video games.

There is but one Blockbuster left in America, a fact that might still seem impossible for those alive in the '90s. The video rental chain was everywhere during that time, and even spawned an entire awards show, fittingly called the Blockbuster Entertainment Awards.

But with the rise of streaming services, Blockbuster has slowly become obsolete. Raise a glass — filled with Blockbuster beer, of course — for our fallen friend.

Every era has their cast of "SNL," and this era lucked out with comedy all-stars Chris Farley, Chris Rock, Adam Sandler, and David Spade.

All four of them started at "Saturday Night Live" during the 1990-1991 season, and all of them left within two years of each other between 1993 and 1995.

Their tight-knit bond remained clear throughout their post-show careers with Sandler, Spade, Rock, and Farley all appearing in movies together.

Their friendship endures to this day. When Sandler hosted "SNL" for the first time in 2019, Rock made a cameo during his friend's opening monologue, and Sandler ended the show with a sweet song for Farley, who died in 1997.

David Beckham went from one of the most popular soccer stars in the world to public enemy No. 1 when he was red-carded during the World Cup in 1998.

Beckham was beloved by England — and the world — for his combination of model good looks and incredible soccer talent. But all of that turned on a dime during the England vs. Argentina game in the 1998 World Cup.

Beckham was shown the red card and thrown out of the game for kicking Argentinian player Diego Simeone.

England went on to lose the game and was eliminated from the tournament, and many people blamed Beckham. There were dartboards with his face on them, and people burned his jersey across the country.

The era of the supermodel peaked in the '90s with icons like Naomi Campbell, Claudia Schiffer, Christy Turlington, Elle MacPherson, and others.

According to Vogue, the era of the supermodel officially began in 1990 with their cover that featured Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista, Tatjana Patitz, Christy Turlington, and Cindy Crawford. Throughout the decade, more and more models became "super," like Elle MacPherson, Tyra Banks, Kate Moss — the list goes on.

President Bill Clinton's saxophone ability is the stuff of memes in 2019, but in the '90s it was endearing.

The concept of a president picking up a musical instrument and playing it seems almost too outlandish to be true, but it really happened. President Clinton was known for his smooth sax abilities, and showed off more than once. The '90s were a simpler time.

Most famously, he played on "The Arsenio Hall Show" in 1992, but he continued to jam out throughout his presidency.

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen were '90s icons and fashionistas even back then.

After gaining popularity on "Full House," the Olsen twins were able to turn their twinhood into a brand. They had books, TV shows, a clothing line, perfume, TV movies — really, anything you can think of.

Mary-Kate and Ashley haven't acted in years, but we'll always have "The Adventures of Mary-Kate & Ashley" and "Switching Goals."

Britney Spears released her debut album, "... Baby One More Time" in January 1999, officially beginning her reign as the teen pop queen.

While Spears is mainly associated with the early 2000s, her career kicked off in the last year of the '90s when she released iconic songs like "...Baby One More Time" and "(You Drive Me) Crazy."

She became an overnight sensation, kicking off two more decades of superstardom, controversies, and dozens of bops.

The Kardashian-Jenner clan have been stars since the '90s — just look at this photo of them from 1991.

All denim? Check. Bowl cuts? Check. Weird, marbled, monochrome backdrop? Check. This photo perfectly encapsulates the typical family photoshoot of the '90s, and the fact that it's the Kardashian/Jenner blended family is only a plus.

See if you can spot Kourtney, Kim, Khloe, Rob, and Brody Jenner, alongside the other Jenner kids Burt, Brandon, and Cassandra.

Jennifer Aniston revealed on the "Today" show this morning that Ross and Rachel would "absolutely" still be together in 2019.

"Yes, absolutely," Aniston said when correspondent Natalie Morales asked if her "Friends" character Rachel Green would still be with her main love interest Ross Geller, played by David Schwimmer on the show.

"And Emma's all grown up?" Morales asked, alluding to the fictional child Ross and Rachel had together on "Friends."

"Emma's all grown up," Aniston said, agreeing that her on-screen child would be in high school or junior high in 2019.

Aniston stars with actor Adam Sandler in the upcoming Netflix film "Murder Mystery," which premieres on Friday. Sandler, who also appeared on the "Today" show with Aniston,  jokingly got in on the "Friends" talk.

"[Emma]'s vaping in high school, and you're just looking the other way. Way to go," Sandler jokingly said to Aniston.

Aniston recently made headlines when she revealed on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" last week that she would be interested in doing a "Friends" reunion.

"Listen, I told you this, I would do it," Aniston said of the proposed reunion to DeGeneres.

She also suggested her cast members would be on board, too.

"The girls would do it, and the boys would do it, I'm sure. Listen, anything can happen."

After sending "Friends" fans into a tizzy about the possible reunion, Aniston has since dialed down her enthusiasm about the idea of a "Friends" reboot.

"Well, 'no' was getting me nowhere, and 'maybe' was getting me nowhere. So I thought I'd try 'yes.' See what would happen," Aniston told "ET" at the premiere of "Murder Mystery" on Monday.

"Anything could happen," the star said, before adding, "I have no idea though. There's no plans in the immediate future."

reese blonde brunette

Many celebrities have become well-known for their blonde locks, but some of them aren't afraid to take a few risks by experimenting with darker hair colors.

Celebrities like Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon have dyed their hair for film roles, while others like Cameron Diaz and Sofia Richie have switched up their style for the red carpet.

Here are 15 famous blondes who looked totally different after going brunette.

Scarlett Johansson often switches up her hair for both the red carpet and movie roles.

Although she's known to have blonde hair, she hit the "Avengers: Infinity War" red carpet in April 2018 with a short brunette style.

Margot Robbie traded in her blonde locks for a deep shade of brown.

Though the actress sported multicolored dip-dyed strands for her role as Harley Quinn in "Suicide Squad," she's most well-known for her blonde hair color. She went with a dark-brunette look for much of 2014.

Sofia Richie switches up her hair color quite a bit.

Richie is currently back to blonde at the time of this post, but she experimented with this chestnut brown color in 2018.

Reese Witherspoon may be "Legally Blonde," but she's gone over to the brunette side before.

She most famously donned brunette locks for her role as June Carter Cash in "Walk the Line" in 2005.

Kate Hudson let her natural brunette color shine through after shaving off her long locks for a film in 2017.

She proved she can make any hairstyle look good, especially as it started to grow back into a super chic pixie cut.

Charlize Theron is no stranger to changing up her look.

She attended the 2019 Academy Awards with a chic brunette bob.

Jennifer Aniston is known for her iconic blonde "The Rachel" haircut, but she isn't afraid to take some risks.

She typically stays with her signature shade of blonde, but she went darker in 2003, as well as for her role in "Horrible Bosses" in 2011.

She's known for her signature blonde locks, but Britney Spears is actually a natural brunette.

That's probably why her darker color looked like a perfect fit when she surprised everyone with a new hue in February 2013. The singer also went with a jet-black color for the cover of her 2007 album "Blackout."

Cara Delevingne switched up the length and color of her hair in 2017.

Cara Delevingne shaved her hair in early 2017 while filming a movie, and then she let it grow out into a short pixie cut.

Cameron Diaz is famously blonde, but can rock a darker color just as well.

She typically keeps her blonde hair color for movie roles, but has hit the red carpet in darker shades of brown.

Drew Barrymore typically wears her hair in a deep shade of blonde, but sometimes she hits the red carpet in brunette tones.

Barrymore also cut her hair into a chic lob back in November 2017 as a response to "mean, cruel, and ugly" comments on her Instagram.

Katherine Heigl made a dramatic transformation with a deep-brown shade.

The actress rose to fame with blonde hair as Izzie Stevens on "Grey's Anatomy," but turned to a darker shade in 2010.

Rachel McAdams first stepped on the scene with a signature shade of blonde.

She's experimented with darker colors since her Regina George days.

Mandy Moore ditched the blonde hair of her early pop star days.

The star first went brunette for her role in "A Walk to Remember," and has since gone on to star in the massively popular show "This is Us."

Hilary Duff ditched her blonde hair for a bit after leaving "Lizzie McGuire."

The singer first went brunette while promoting her 2007 album "Dignity."

A post shared by Lisa Kudrow (@lisakudrow) on Jun 15, 2019 at 10:36pm PDT on

These selfies come just a few days after Aniston stirred the "Friends" reunion pot during an appearance on "Ellen" on June 5. Aniston, who played Rachel Green on the mega-hit sitcom, told DeGeneres "You know what, because, listen, I told you this. I would do it. The girls would do it, and the boys would do it. I'm sure."

Critics hated Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston's 'shamelessly gaudy' 'Murder Mystery' — even though it broke Netflix viewing records

murder mystery

  • Netflix's latest original film "Murder Mystery" premiered last Friday — and, as reported by Variety today, was streamed by over 30 million households in its first three days, breaking viewing records for the streaming service.
  • The film stars Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston as a blue-collar couple who impulsively travel to Europe, but get mixed up in a murder upon arrival.
  • While "Murder Mystery" may have gotten plenty of streams, critics positively hated the film, calling it "generic" and "lazy and uninspired trash."
  • Visit INSIDER's homepage for more stories

Netflix's original film "Murder Mystery" was streamed by more than 30 million households during its first three days, Variety reported— but that didn't stop most critics from panning the film.

The film currently holds a 45% score on Rotten Tomatoes, with most critics taking issue with the cliché setup and Sandler's acting.

Variety's Amy Nicholson says of the film's stars Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler in her review:"The A-listers are cavorting on Netflix in a film that feels like a postcard from a past era."

"'Murder Mystery' feels as shamelessly gaudy as paste jewelry," Nicholson concludes, but praises Aniston's performance, saying the "Friends" actress "sparkles like the real deal. "

Indiewire was even more critical in their review of the film. Senior film critic David Ehrlich called "Murder Mystery"  "a weak Netflix comedy that seems perfectly at peace with its own awfulness," and took particular issue with Sandler's performance in the film, which Ehrlich called Sandler's "laziest movie to date."

Ehrlich leveled serious criticisms at "Murder Mystery," saying the film "is the kind of lazy and uninspired trash that can only be made by someone who knows that it doesn't matter."

Most other critics also gave "Murder Mystery" poor reviews. The New York Times' Elisabeth Vincentelli called it "woeful" and "sluggish," and CNN's Brian Lowry described the Netflix original as "generic" and a "tired, bordering on tiresome endeavor."RogerEbert.com writer Brian Tallerico described the film as "just entertaining enough to make you wish it was actually good."

One of the few positive reviews for "Murder Mystery" came from Entertainment Weekly's Leah Greenblatt, who called the Netflix film "fizzy-light" and praised the self-awareness of the film and its two stars.

"'Murder Mystery' seems to know from the first frame how silly it is, right down to the placeholder name," she said.

Greenblatt, who called the film "more fun than it should be to watch," ultimately concluded, "none of it ever really matters."

"Even the big reveal of whodunit evaporates like so much morning mist over a villa — or like 100 minutes of zero-gravity Netflixing you can swig down like boxed Prosecco, and never have to think of again," Greenblatt wrote.

According to Variety, "Murder Mystery" was watched by close to 30.9 million households in the three days after it premiered on Friday. For reference, "Triple Frontier," another original Netflix film starring Ben Affleck that premiered on March 13, was watched by over 52 million households during its first four weeks on the streaming service.

In terms of fan reviews, "Murder Mystery" currently holds a 5.8 out of 10 score on Metacritic. An audience score on Rotten Tomatoes isn't yet available.

Apple original Apple Plus The Morning Show

  • The first teaser trailer for Apple's coming original series "The Morning Show" has arrived.
  • The drama, which follows the team behind a fictional morning television program, stars Jennifer Aniston, Steve Carell, and Reese Witherspoon.
  • The first episode of the show is expected to arrive in the fall on Apple TV Plus.

Apple has released a first look at its coming drama "The Morning Show," starring Jennifer Aniston, Steve Carell, and Reese Witherspoon.

The series, showrun by Kerry Ehrin, is a fictional look at the goings-on of early-morning television. Apple also said Monday that the show would debut exclusively on Apple TV Plus this fall.

In "The Morning Show," Aniston, Carell, and Witherspoon play people who work at the titular morning show. While the trailer showed only glimpses of their characters in photographs and posters, it did feature overlapping lines of dialogue from all three actors, designed to showcase their differences in opinions at how the value of such programs and people on said programs.

The teaser begins with the camera panning down a dark hallway behind the scenes at the show, with Aniston's voice saying: "Good morning. I am bringing you some sad and upsetting news." But then it cuts to slow pans of a closet filled with suits, a vanity in a dressing room. Aniston says, "Don't you ever question my integrity in my house again," while Carell offers that his character feels that "people are screaming for honest conversation." As the camera pushes into the control room, Witherspoon says, "I think they want to know the person behind the facade." She also says she wants "to win," while Aniston says they are going to do things "my way." Finally, the camera ends up on the set of the fictional show-within-the-show, with Witherspoon saying that people "want to trust that the person telling them the truth about the world is an honest person."

The drama comes from Michael Ellenberg's Media Res studio, based on an idea from Ellenberg, but also draws on background material from the CNN senior media correspondent Brian Stelter's 2013 book "Top of the Morning," which recounted the recent rivalry between NBC's "Today" and ABC's "Good Morning America."

"The Morning Show" is executive produced by Ehrin; Ellenberg; Aniston and Kristin Hahn through Echo Films; and Witherspoon and Lauren Levy Neustadter through Hello Sunshine. Mimi Leder also executive produces and directs.

Apple ordered two seasons of the show, with 10 episodes a season streaming exclusively on Apple TV Plus. The new service is an original video subscription service that will feature original shows, movies and documentaries. The app will be ad-free and programs will be available on demand.

Apple March event Reese Witherspoon Jennifer Anniston The Morning Show

Apple plans to launch a new premium-TV subscription service later this year, and its original series "The Morning Show" is expected to be a huge part of it.

Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Aniston, and Steve Carell — the three stars of "The Morning Show"— were on hand at Apple's big "Showtime" event in March to introduce their series alongside the announcement of the Apple TV Plus service. Witherspoon and Aniston, who are also executive producers on the show, said the series was about "complex relationships between men and women on the set of a morning television show."

While we saw a couple of brief moments from "The Morning Show" back in March, we didn't get an official look at the series until Monday, when Apple released the first full teaser for the program.

Unfortunately for Apple, the teaser appears to have confused a lot of people.

With the moody voice-overs playing over an empty and dimly lit office environment, some people were naturally wondering where the actors were.

Some people just didn't understand what the teaser was trying to accomplish.

Some people remarked that they learned more information about the show back in March, at Apple's event, than they did from the trailer.

Some people were hoping for more definitive information about the show's plot or characters.

It's perhaps unclear whether this person actually liked the trailer.

Polarizing teaser trailer aside, a lot of people still seem really excited for the show.

"The Morning Show" is scheduled to arrive this fall, exclusively for the Apple TV Plus service on the Apple TV app.

worst movies from the cast of friends

  • Most of the main actors from the highly regarded television series "Friends" have appeared in multiple films — but not all of their movies have been well-received.
  • Matt LeBlanc, who played Joey Tribbiani on "Friends," starred in the 1996 comedy "Ed" that has a 0% on Rotten Tomatoes.
  • Jennifer Aniston, who played Rachel Green, appeared in "'Til There Was You" (1997), which was panned by critics.
  • These are the worst movies each of the main "Friends" cast members have been in, according to critic scores on Rotten Tomatoes.

"Friends" (1994 - 2004) is often regarded as one of the most iconic sitcoms in television history.

The show's cast has done pretty well for themselves since the series ended over a decade ago, but not everything they've appeared in has turned to gold.

Here are the worst movies that the cast of "Friends" has appeared in, based on critic scores on Rotten Tomatoes. Keep in mind that this list was accurate at the time of publication but is subject to change.

Matt LeBlanc - "Ed" (1996)

Critic Score: 0%

Two years after he first appeared as Joey Tribbiani on "Friends," Matt LeBlanc starred in a comedy with a baseball-playing ape.

"Ed" was directed by Bill Couturié and co-starred Jayne Brook, Bill Cobbs, and Jack Warden.

In the film, LeBlanc plays a character named Jack Cooper, aka Deuce, who a star pitcher and new member of a minor-league team. His teammate and roommate is Ed, an animatronic chimp.

"Anything is funnier than Ed," wrote Lisa Schwarzbaum, a critic who gave the film a D- a review for Entertainment Weekly. "Why Bill Couturie, who produced the affecting AIDS-quilt docu Common Threads, took on this howler is as mysterious as the theory of evolution. Why LeBlanc gave up hiatus for the role is as mysterious as Hollywood."

Courtney Cox - "Zoom" (2006)

Critic score: 3%

Not to be confused with the great American children's television program of the same name, "Zoom" is an action-comedy about a group of kids who are training to become superheroes.

Directed by Peter Hewitt, the film stars Tim Allen as Captain Zoom and Courtney Cox (who played Monica Geller on "Friends") as a clumsy psychologist with super-breath named Marsha Holloway.

In a review for The Guardian, Rob Mackie suggested that having his wisdom teeth removed without anesthetic would be a more enjoyable experience than watching this film.

"The title describes the sound that you should make in your car, or on foot, or on mule, heading away from any cinema showing this film," he wrote

Matthew Perry - "The Whole Ten Yards" (2003)

Critic Score: 4%

As Chandler Bing, Matthew Perry was a fast audience favorite ... but his acting career hasn't been all smooth-sailing. Perry's worst film according to critics didn't stain his resume until 2003, a year before the final episode of "Friends" aired.

"The Whole Ten Yards" is a sequel directed by Howard Deutch that stars Perry and Bruce Willis as a dentist and his former hitman neighbor, respectively.

"They may have gone an extra yard in the title, but this follow-up to 2000's The Whole Nine… sees cast and director take several steps backwards," wrote William Thomas in a review for Empire. "The script is so bland it barely musters a whole ten laughs."

Jennifer Aniston - "'Til There Was You" (1997)

Critic Score: 5%

Jennifer Aniston, who starred on "Friends" as Rachel Green, was not the lead in the movie that's now considered to be the worst in her filmography.

"'Til There Was You" is a 1997 rom-com that critics found "utterly bereft of romance or humor." Written by Winnie Holzman and directed by Scott Winant, the film stars Jeanne Tripplehorn, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Dylan McDermott. Aniston plays a character named Debbie who is a doctor and friends with Tripplehorn's character, Gwen.

In a review for the Chicago Tribune, John Petrakis wrote that Aniston's main scenes "clearly ended up on the cutting-room floor. She appears so infrequently, it would have been better if the filmmakers had cut her out completely, thereby shortening the film to a more manageable length."

Paul Rudd - "Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers" (1995)

Critic Score:6%

His eternally youthful face may not show it, but Paul Rudd (who played Phoebe's husband Mike) has accumulated over 100 IMDb acting credits over the course of 27 years. The least well-received of the bunch was the sixth installment in a horror franchise, so no one really expected Oscar nominations to come out of it.

In "Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers," Rudd played a character named Tommy Doyle, acting alongside Donald Pleasence in his final on-screen appearance as Dr. Loomis.

Derek Adams of Time Out called the film "slicker than crude oil and just as unattractive." Mick LaSalle of the San Francisco Chronicle echoed the sentiment, calling the sixth "Halloween" movie "bland and deadening."

Lisa Kudrow - "Marci X" (2003)

Critic Score: 8%

Lisa Kudrow (who was Phoebe Buffay on "Friends") stars in "Marci X" as the socialite daughter of a record-label owner who has to get a rapper named Dr. S (Damon Wayans) to change his persona.

If that sounds like a funny premise to you, then you are perhaps not one of the many critics who harshly reviewed the film in 2003.

"This is a messy disaster at which you can only scratch your head and mutter, 'What were they thinking?'," wrote Leah Rozen in a review for People, adding that "the result is a misfire of a satire unlikely to show up on the résumés of anyone involved."

David Schwimmer - "Since You've Been Gone" (1998)

Critic Score: 23%

A few years into "Friends," David Schwimmer (who played Ross Geller) directed and starred in a made-for-TV rom-com alongside Teri Hatcher and Lara Flynn Boyle. It's about former classmates reuniting at a high-school reunion.

In a review for AV Club, Nathan Rubin called "Since You've Been Gone" a "tame, forgettable comedy." Rubin added that the film was "inoffensive but uninspired. If nothing else, its atrophied, lifeless tone could be a step toward driving a well-deserved stake through the heart of the nascent but already tedious '80s-nostalgia genre."

There are not a lot of reviews readily available on the internet so there is no critical consensus of the rom-com, but for what it's worth, audiences also left poor reviews for the film on Rotten Tomatoes.

Maggie Wheeler - "The Parent Trap" (1998)

Critic Score: 86%

Having acted almost exclusively on television for over 35 years, Maggie Wheeler (who played Chandler's iconic on-and-off girlfriend Janice) has managed to pull off a rare trick where her lowest-rated film on Rotten Tomatoes is also her highest-rated one.

The 1998 remake of "The Parent Trap" was made by writer-director Nancy Meyers and stars Lindsay Lohan, Dennis Quaid, Natasha Richardson, and Elaine Hendrix. Wheeler plays Marva Kulp Jr., one of the camp counselors who walks into Hallie's trap.

Although most critics felt the film worked, Lisa Alspector of the Chicago Reader called it "mostly boring with its cumbersome exposition and close-ups of trivial objects scattered throughout lackluster montage sequences."

Compared to the other films on this list, "The Parent Trap" is miles ahead with a score of 86% on Rotten Tomatoes.
